Kindness at Every Moment​

"Every Opportunity" is a powerful speech from an Atlanta school. It highlights how small acts of kindness have a big impact. Choosing kindness creates connection, brightens days, and fosters a compassionate community. Kindness builds relationships, improves communication, and equips adults with conflict-resolution skills.

  • Students will understand how these skills relate to their confidence and success.

  • Students will identify and use the appropriate Interpersonal strategies and techniques. 

  • Students will apply Interpersonal approaches to arrive at a practical solution.

Activity Introduction

Watch this video called, "Every Opportunity“, from a school in Atlanta, Ga Speech is powerful because it beautifully explains how even small acts of kindness can make a big impact. It reminds us that we all have the chance to choose kindness in our everyday lives and shows examples of how simple acts of kindness can brighten someone's day and create a sense of connection. By practicing kindness, we can make a positive difference in the world and create a more compassionate and caring community. Kindness is crucial as you grow into adults because it helps build strong relationships, improves communication and collaboration, promotes personal well-being, inspires others, and equips adults with valuable conflict-resolution skills.

Prompts for group activities

How does understanding people help us get along and be happy adults?

  •  How can you show kindness to someone who might be feeling sad or upset?


  • What are some ways you can be kind to your classmates or friends during a group project or activity?


  • Can you think of a time when someone showed you kindness? How did it make you feel, and how can you pay that kindness forward to others?

Step 1: Watch the video

Activity Tips

  1. Remind the students to write down words they don’t understand or questions that immediately come to mind about the topic they’re watching.

  2. Tell them to be ready to share with their group.



Step 2:
Group Session

After the video, divide students into groups of 3 or 4 and let the students begin their discussions while you circulate; it’s all about what THEY think and feel. Ask them to listen carefully to their friends as they might have different opinions to them.

Step 3:
Assessment

Ask the students:

  • Ask the students who they believe the best listeners and best team players are from this activity. 

  • Ask them to justify their answers in a simple sentence. 

  • Explain to them that the idea is everyone improves both their listening and teamwork skills over time.

  • Ask the students to summarize the video in 6-8 words only.
